Posted on 27 March 2008.
What is UMapper?
UMapper is the first application of its kind; it is a visual, universal, web-based map layering engine. UMapper makes it easier than ever to create embeddable maps for Adobe Flash and distribute them through a website, blog, or social network. UMapper uses AS3 so in turn requires Flash Player 9.
UMapper’s Features:
- Create interactive flash maps
- Display maps on your website or social network
- Export data to Flash ActionScript 3.0 or KML
- Explore and interact with our map community
- Fulfill all your map-making dreams
Supported Social Sites:

Uses of UMapper:
- Stops during your vacation
- Places you’d like to visit
- Locations of a specific tour, conference, event, etc
- Places you have been
- many, many more…
As you can see, UMapper can be used in many creative ways. Users of UMapper can post and view maps created by others. This is a great spot to view other examples. Below is an example of a UMapper map.
The 30 Greatest Battles of WW II
The 30 Greatest Battles of WW II Battles are ranked by a combination of Importance in the outcome of World War II, Amount of Men and Materials committed to the Battle, Intensity of Fighting and Casualties and Losses incurred in Men and Materials.
Take UMapper for a Test Drive:
UMapper’s map creation is very intuitive as it is very obvious what options and settings are available to modify. There is also a very handy export to actionscript feature that’ll do exactly that. It exports all related actionscript in an AS3 format. Give it a shot and see what you can come up with.
